The Story of Sukanya and Sage Chyavana

Introduction In Sanatan Scriptures, Sukanya was the daughter of King Sharyati, son of Vaivasvata Manu, and later became the wife of the great sage Chyavana. The sage had spent so many years in deep meditation that his body was covered by an anthill and a bird’s nest had formed over him. One day, the young and curious Sukanya noticed two shining objects inside the nest. Unaware that they were the sage’s eyes, she playfully poked at them, causing him to lose his sight. Enraged by this act, Chyavana cursed the kingdom, but Sukanya’s father pacified him by offering his daughter’s hand in marriage. Despite Chyavana’s old age and blindness, Sukanya accepted her role as his wife and devotedly cared for him with cheerfulness and loyalty. One day, the celestial physicians of the gods, the Ashwini Kumaras—twin brothers renowned for their beauty and healing powers—saw Sukanya and were struck by her radiant charm. Believing her beauty was better suited for heaven, they asked her to abandon her hus...

Five qualities of dogs

Do you know why dogs are one of the best pets in the world? There are some very important qualities that humans lack nowadays but those qualities are shown by dogs. We must always strive to develop these qualities in us. Let us understand those qualities and try to inculcate these essential qualities in us. 1. Loyalty: This is the most popular quality of dogs. You can also observe this quality yourself. I have observed this quality and can say that this species is the most loyal among all animals. As we are becoming more and more advanced, this particular character is getting extinct from our behavior. People used to respect seniors (Professors/Bosses) in their presence but used to say bad things about them from behind. One of my friends has a dog and he is with this dog for the last 2 years. My friend used to return home by 8 pm daily and that dog used to wait for its owner eagerly. That dog used to eat only when its owner returns home. Dogs are also used in wars and battles and t...

Mysteries behind Holi and important Life lessons

In Hindi, we say " Bura Na Mano Holi Hai" while celebrating Holi. This means please do not feel sad because it's Holi". It's an Indian version of La Tomatina with the only difference that Indians use colors instead of crushed tomatoes. Obviously, Holi is a time to become exuberant but we must also learn some life lessons from Holi. This a time when caste, creed, and color doesn't divide people. People from different walks of life enjoy Holi together and this is a time when enemies become friends. There are also many mysterious stories behind the Holi festival which have some greatest lessons for us. Let us try to understand and inculcate those lessons in our lives. Lesson 1: Never Boast of your resources: Hiranyakashyap was a king in ancient India who was just like a demon. He wants to take revenge for his brother's death from Lord Vishnu. Once Hiranyakashyap performed a prayer for several years. In the end, he was granted a boon and because of w...

The Importance of Setting Clear Goals

It's good that we have dreams, goals, and desire but we must think twice before setting up any goal in our life. If you ever been on a long route without proper GPS or a map then it might have turned out to be a good adventure but you might have taken a long time to reach the destination. It's important to focus on your goal instead of focussing on the problem. This can be understood by following analogy " when you focus on your problem then you lose your goal but when you focus on your goal then you lose your problem". Many people used to left their job when their bosses scold them, but they must not change their goal but they must change their strategy. We cannot play football without a goal, a ship that has no rudder cannot go anywhere and hence a professional without any goal cannot go anywhere. No goal means no direction. There is also a very famous shloka in Bhagwad Gita where Krsna has spoken about Goal setting: vyavasayatmika buddhir ekeha kuru- ...
