The Story of Sukanya and Sage Chyavana

Introduction In Sanatan Scriptures, Sukanya was the daughter of King Sharyati, son of Vaivasvata Manu, and later became the wife of the great sage Chyavana. The sage had spent so many years in deep meditation that his body was covered by an anthill and a bird’s nest had formed over him. One day, the young and curious Sukanya noticed two shining objects inside the nest. Unaware that they were the sage’s eyes, she playfully poked at them, causing him to lose his sight. Enraged by this act, Chyavana cursed the kingdom, but Sukanya’s father pacified him by offering his daughter’s hand in marriage. Despite Chyavana’s old age and blindness, Sukanya accepted her role as his wife and devotedly cared for him with cheerfulness and loyalty. One day, the celestial physicians of the gods, the Ashwini Kumaras—twin brothers renowned for their beauty and healing powers—saw Sukanya and were struck by her radiant charm. Believing her beauty was better suited for heaven, they asked her to abandon her hus...

There was a story regarding a little sparrow in the jungle. She used to listen to the good thoughts of a spiritual teacher living in the jungle. One day there was a very big fire in the jungle and everyone was running from the jungle.  Big and small animals were running away to save their lives. Suddenly they observed that little sparrow was flying far away from the jungle to take little water in her beak and trying to extinguish the fire of the jungle with that water. She had continued this for a while. Other animals started asking why she was doing so? does she become mad? She answered that whenever people will read the history of the jungle then I don't want to come in a list of animals who were just standing by or ran away. I want to come in a list of animals who tried their best to extinguish the fire. Similarly, we used to just stand and see how our career is getting doomed and do not take any concrete action. Warren Buffett is the kind of person who had tried his best ...

Move out of comfort zone to effort zone

An interesting incident happened on the day Abraham Lincoln took office as a president of America. When he was about to give his first speech, an Aristocratic gentleman stood up and told Lincoln do not forget that your father used to make shoes for our family. The whole senate started laughing at Lincoln. He thought that he had made a fool of Abraham Lincoln. But the Lincoln was unfazed, he looked at this man and told him that he is very proud that his father made shoes for his family and of many other families. I am very happy to say that when my father made a shoe for anyone he makes sure that he put his life and soul into his creation. If anyone of you has any complaint regarding his work then let me know as I am also trained in shoemaking. Life really begins when we come out of our comfort zone and enter into the effort zone. Nobody can hurt us without our consent. Let us read a sloka from Bhagwad Gita (17.15): Gitaanudvega-karam vakyam satyam priya-hitam ca yat svadhya...

He sometimes becomes very angry and wanted to end his life also. One day while he was roaming around his big castle he listened to a very loud song. He followed the song and came to know that one of his Laundrymen was singing this song. There was a joy in a song of this laundryman. This fascinated the King; why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy. The King asked the laundry man, “Why are you so happy?” The man replied, "Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don't need too much - just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies." I don't want anything else. King listened to the answer and left the place. But he was not satisfied with the answer. King asked the question from one of his wisest advisers. After hearing the King’s woes ...
