The “Settle In” Advice for New Jobs Is Dangerous

Introduction  When you join a new company, someone will probably tell you, “Don’t worry. Just take some time to settle in.” It sounds like good advice. After all, starting a new job can be overwhelming. There are new people, processes, systems, expectations, and ways of working. Naturally, you need time to understand your surroundings. But there is a problem with the “settle in” mindset. If you spend your first few months simply waiting to feel comfortable, you may lose the most valuable period of your transition. Your first 90 days are not just a period for settling in. They are a period for learning, building relationships, creating credibility, and understanding how you can make an impact.  Why “Just Settle In” Can Hold You Back  When people are told to settle in, they often become passive. They attend meetings, complete assigned tasks, observe what others are doing, and wait for someone to tell them what they should focus on. There is nothing wrong with observing. In ...

The Final Lesson of Alexander the Great: What Truly Matters in Life

Introduction When Alexander the Great was on his deathbed, he did not speak about his victories. He did not reflect on the vast empire he had built or the power he once held. Instead, he spoke about something far more important — his exit from this world.   This is what makes his story so powerful. A man who conquered kingdoms and commanded armies chose to leave behind a message that had nothing to do with success as the world defines it.   He gave three unusual instructions for his funeral. At first, they seemed strange, even confusing. But hidden within them was a truth so simple and so deep that most people spend their entire lives ignoring it.  The Message Behind the Wealth Alexander asked for his wealth to be scattered along the path to his grave. Gold, silver, and precious treasures — everything he had accumulated — was to be laid out for the world to see.   Why would someone so powerful want this?   The message was clear. Everything yo...

Impact of Games on Willpower

According to a study conducted at Stanford Unversity by Dr. Veronica Jobs, just as we fill fuel in the car to run it. The willpower works in the same way, it keeps us motivated all day. As we cannot fill fuel in a car beyond a certain limit, we have willpower in a limited amount. Whenever we wake up in the morning we used to have 100% will power but we use that will power while doing unnecessary things and feel demotivated when tough situations come. There are many students and professionals who feel very less will power even before ending their day. On the other side, we have people who used to stay motivated throughout the day. Let's understand how those people maintain their higher motivation and there are no magic secrets. Researchers explain how playing video games in excessive amounts drain our willpower. Failures of ISRO and Chandrayaan-2 mission

ISRO's plan to soft-land Chandrayaan's Vikram lander on the south pole of the moon failed at the terminal stage of the project. This is not the first failure of the organization and definitely not the last one also. There are several learnings from the failure of ISRO. We also used to face failure when success seems very near. We used to get disappointed due to those failures and just stop working towards success. There's also a great story " Three feet from Gold" and you can read it here . It very neatly explains how we stop trying after temporary failures and miss our goal just by three feet. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam explained how he faced failure in 1979 and how he learned to fight failures by that particular incident. He was a mission director of the Satellite Launch Vehicle project at ISRO. His mission was to put the vehicle into the orbit. Thousands of scientists worked for the project for more than 10 years. At the launch site in Sriharikota, the time was ...

This problem was there in most of the countries but it was worst in South Africa where 70% of people were blacks and most of the services were performed by Africans but still they used to get the worst facilities. The racial difference was there since time immemorial but it got worse when the National Party in 1948 decided to create separate places for Blacks and Whites. But due to the persistent efforts of Mr. Nelson Mandela, this differentiation ended. However, that was not easy as Mandela spent 27 years of his life in prison due to this movement. Let us know more about Mr. Mandela. He was a son of a tribal leader and his original name was Rolihlahla Mandela and later became the first Black president of South Africa.
