The Power of Likeability: Why People Remember How You Make Them Feel

Introduction Have you ever noticed how some people walk into a room and instantly become likeable? They don’t need to prove anything. They don’t try too hard. Yet, people naturally feel comfortable around them.   It’s not because of their title, achievements, or status. It’s because of how they make others feel.   Likeability is often misunderstood as charisma or natural charm. In reality, it is not something you are born with. It is a set of behaviors, habits, and small actions that create a strong emotional impact on others.   In both personal and professional life, this is one of the most underrated success skills. People may forget what you said or what you did, but they rarely forget how you made them feel. And that feeling often determines whether they trust you, respect you, or want to work with you.   The Power of Remembering Names One of the simplest yet most powerful habits of likeable people is remembering and using names. A person’s na...

Major Dhyan Chand: Dedication at its best

Have you ever heard of a person whose name got changed because of his dedication? Dhyan Singh used to play hockey during the day, and even in the light of moon hence his in-charge named him Dhyan Chand. "Chand" signifies that he used to play hockey even during night (in the light of the moon). He scored 3 goals in his first match, 35+ goals in Olympics and 1000+ goals in his international career. He practiced so dedicatedly that when he played matches no one was able to take hockey ball from him. Holland officials even checked his hockey stick by breaking it into two parts if it had a magnet in it. Japanese thought he used special gum in his hockey stick but the real secret was in his practice and dedication. Opponents even abuse Dhyan Chand during matches but he always won matches due to his dedication. His popularity can be gauged by the fact that his 4 arm statue was placed in Vienna signifying his talent of hockey. His birthday is celebrated as a National Sports Da...

Failures of ISRO and Chandrayaan-2 mission

ISRO's plan to soft-land Chandrayaan's Vikram lander on the south pole of the moon failed at the terminal stage of the project. This is not the first failure of the organization and definitely not the last one also. There are several learnings from the failure of ISRO. We also used to face failure when success seems very near. We used to get disappointed due to those failures and just stop working towards success. There's also a great story " Three feet from Gold" and you can read it here . It very neatly explains how we stop trying after temporary failures and miss our goal just by three feet. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam explained how he faced failure in 1979 and how he learned to fight failures by that particular incident. He was a mission director of the Satellite Launch Vehicle project at ISRO. His mission was to put the vehicle into the orbit. Thousands of scientists worked for the project for more than 10 years. At the launch site in Sriharikota, the time was ...

Success sutras of Nelson Mandela

Do you know there was a time when basic services were provided on the basis of skin color? White people used to get better facilities as compared to black people. This problem was there in most of the countries but it was worst in South Africa where 70% of people were blacks and most of the services were performed by Africans but still they used to get the worst facilities. The racial difference was there since time immemorial but it got worse when the National Party in 1948 decided to create separate places for Blacks and Whites. But due to the persistent efforts of Mr. Nelson Mandela, this differentiation ended. However, that was not easy as Mandela spent 27 years of his life in prison due to this movement. Let us know more about Mr. Mandela. He was a son of a tribal leader and his original name was Rolihlahla Mandela and later became the first Black president of South Africa. He also won Bharata Ratna and Nobel peace prize. He was a great orator and a true Gandhian. So what wa...

Why you should run your own race

London is 5 hours ahead of New York but it does not mean that New York is slow, or that London is fast. They are working based on their own "Time Zone." Someone may be unmarried now, someone else may marry now and wait for 10 years to have a baby and yet another may get a baby within one year of marriage. Someone may become CEO at the age of 17 and die at 40 and another one becomes CEO at the age of 69 and may live until 90. If you will look around, then you will find that many people are ahead of you and many are behind you. Everyone is running at his own pace hence we must not get jealous of other's success and yet not become complacent if we find many people behind us. Also, remember that Obama got retired at 55 and Trump resumed office at the age of 70. Hold on and be strong, all things shall work together for you and please understand that you are running at your own pace. Just try to improve day by day. I had read somewhere, at the age of 19 we wonder wha...

How to make a good first impression

One day I was sitting in a salon waiting for my turn. It was a Sunday morning and many people were there in the queue, all were waiting for there turn. Everyone wants to get out of the salon as soon as possible. Suddenly a person entered with his cute child. That Child had a very attractive smile and other people also started smiling and playing with the child. This is the effect of a smile which can change the whole atmosphere automatically. Similarly, if we want to make our good first impression then we must have a smile on our face. So how can we build a habit of smiling? Remember that it cannot be generated in a fake way. It cannot be like we have a serious mood other times and start smiling when we meet others. We must inculcate this habit over time.  There's a story regarding the power of habit and we must learn from this story. The story is known as "Elephant and Mahawat". In India, Mahawats are those people who used to breed elephants. Mahawat used to tie the ...

Stop criticism today !!!

Let us first know what famous people said about criticism: Abraham Lincoln : “Don’t criticize them; they are just what we would be under similar circumstances”. Confucious : " Don't complain about the snow on the roof of the neighbors if your door is unclean". Benjamin Franklin : " Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain - and most fools do". Lets us read a story of Francis Crowley or popularly known as "Two-Gun" Crowley. He was a serial murderer of New York and he also robbed a New Rochelle Bank. On the day he was encountered by New York Police he was enjoying at his girlfriend's home. 300 policemen surrounded the building and bullet started flowing from both sides but when Crowley identified that his bullets are finishing, he had written a letter. In that letter, he had written that " Yes he knows that he is a killer, but he has a kind heart under his coat, a heart that does no harm". Yes, you read it correctly he identifi...

Why failures are important and inevitable ?

All of us face failures at some moment in our lives. Most of us feel that those moments are the most painful moments but Chanakya had a totally different view. Let us first know something about Chanakya. He was a Professor at Ancient Nalanda University and also a chancellor of Taxila University. Chandragupta Maurya, a very poor person, was able to become king of a Great Mauryan Empire just because of the wisdom and guidance of Chanakya. Chanakya also failed several times and when he got defeated by the mighty army of the Nanda Dynasty then he told below words to his army: He told his army that decision is with them if they want they can live their whole life with this defeat or they can bounce back and prepare better to defeat enemy next time. He always believed that failure is temporary and we can win anytime in our life. A defeated person can anytime prepare for the victory. A person is not defeated when he lost the competition but he loses when he in his mind accept his failu...

4 Success habits of Billionaires

One of the most celebrated person on earth, the man who thinks about building a colony on Mars. Yes, we are talking about Elon Musk who is a founder of revolutionary companies like Tesla and SpaceX. What is that habit which made him so successful? He disclosed this habit several times but still, people don't follow this method. He uses the concept of "Time Block". So what is the meaning of Time Block? It means that breaking our day into hours, minutes and increasing productivity in those blocks. Achieving goals in small parts and measuring the day in small parts. Musk used to break his day in 5 minutes also. To track his minutes he uses Buzzers and even hourglass. What you'll say about the success of a person who breaks his day into 5-minute blocks. But what we do, we used to waste hour time on social media, nonsense chit chats, etc. Parkinson's Law states that " Work expands to fill the time allotted for it".We must understand that until we use time...

Corporate lessons from the life of Sh. Manohar Parrikar

Born in Goa on 13 Dec 1955, Mr. Parrikar had done Engineering from IIT Bombay and he was a batchmate of Mr. Nandan Nilekani. He entered politics to uplift the downtrodden common man. Below are the life-changing lessons from the life of Mr. Manohar Parrikar. 1. Duty is always first: In 1999 he lost his wife Medha who died because of cancer. Just after 1 month, he had taken oath as the first BJP CM of Goa. Let's read the realization of Dr. Jagannath (Doctor who treated Sh Parrikar): He was never out of touch with the affairs of the state. In spite of being in the hospital, he ran a full day of office work with his staff in the hospital. When I went to New York to meet him, I saw a similar arrangement of his getting information and passing the necessary instructions back to Goa. Many times we used to take leaves from the office by giving lame excuses like I had pain in my hand, head, etc. Here is an example of a man who is lying on his deathbed but still fulfilling his duties....
