The world-famous Chanakya or Kautilya is well known for his Niti Shastra, a political treatise, and diplomacy. His great creations, Kautilya Arthashastra and Chanakya Niti are still used by many great leaders in this world. In his book, Chanakya Niti, he asks people to learn certain qualities from animals that will help people to never face defeat in their life. He says we should learn one quality from a lion, one from a crane, four from a cock, five from a crow, six from a dog, and three from an ass. The following are the 20 qualities we should learn from these 6 animals:

1. Lion: Whenever a lion hunts, it hunts with all its strength and energy towards the accomplishment of the hunt like he has only this one thing left to do. This implies a man should do his things with strenuous efforts and wholeheartedly. It is this attitude of the Lion that makes him the King even though there are animals who are faster, bigger, and cleverer than him in the forest.
2. Crane: A crane is well known to be a marvelous predator by its rare chances of losing or missing prey. When it locates its prey, it first analyses the prey and its chance of success and strikes with lightning speed to its prey. In the same way, a man should analyze his objective first which will save his energy and increase his chance of success. It also teaches us to restrain our senses and achieve our purpose with working knowledge of time, place, and ability.
3. Cock: Chanakya Niti suggests that rising early in the morning every day is an evident quality of cock known to everyone. Secondly, it protects and defends its family with aggression. It also makes equal and fair division among its relatives. Fourthly, it teaches us to earn our own bread. Like cock, a punctual man’s life remains in order.

4. Crow: Crows usually have a very harsh voice, but their five qualities mentioned in Chanakya Niti cannot be undermined. Crows have a high value for privacy, they never mate publicly. The crows do not give up easily on anything like taking away food from somewhere and keep on retrying. They cannot be scared off easily, they will keep re-entering the place when we try to wave them off. The most wonderous quality of crows is they are very well aware of their surroundings; they are on alert all the time. So, these qualities of crow should motivate humans to keep their secrets covered and intimate life secret, be bold, not to give up easily, to collect and store useful items, and to be watchful always.
5. Dog: Dogs are the most famous creature for loyalty. They can starve for several days without food and make up for the loss of nutrition afterward by overeating. They can sense an unknown presence even while sleeping, which means they are on alert twenty-four seven. Dogs are also ultimately devoted to their master. Dogs also guard their areas or areas denoted to them always non-stop till death. A man should learn from a dog to be loyal as loyal people are treated nicely, ability to overcome any losses incurred, be alert, suspicious and love close ones dearly. 
If a man gets to learn good qualities from anywhere, then he should learn it, even if these qualities are obtained from a perfect Mahatma, common man or even animal and bird Acharya Chanakya
6. Ass: According to Chanakya Niti, though known as a beast of burden, it also signifies their endurance and stamina. They are ignorant of heat and cold signifying nothing should affect the work at hand and have contentment signifying it as key to happiness. These were the three qualities of an ass mentioned in Chanakya Niti.
