Introduction Have you ever noticed how some people walk into a room and instantly become likeable? They don’t need to prove anything. They don’t try too hard. Yet, people naturally feel comfortable around them. It’s not because of their title, achievements, or status. It’s because of how they make others feel. Likeability is often misunderstood as charisma or natural charm. In reality, it is not something you are born with. It is a set of behaviors, habits, and small actions that create a strong emotional impact on others. In both personal and professional life, this is one of the most underrated success skills. People may forget what you said or what you did, but they rarely forget how you made them feel. And that feeling often determines whether they trust you, respect you, or want to work with you. One day I was sitting in a salon waiting for my turn. It was a Sunday morning and many people were there in the queue, all were waiting for there turn. Everyone wants to get out of the salon as soon as possible. Suddenly a person entered with his cute child. That Child had a very attractive smile and other people also started smiling and playing with the child. This is the effect of a smile which can change the whole atmosphere automatically. Similarly, if we want to make our good first impression then we must have a smile on our face. So how can we build a habit of smiling? Remember that it cannot be generated in a fake way. It cannot be like we have a serious mood other times and start smiling when we meet others. We must inculcate this habit over time.
There's a story regarding the power of habit and we must learn from this story. The story is known as "Elephant and Mahawat". In India, Mahawats are those people who used to breed elephants. Mahawat used to tie the elephant calf with the chain to prevent them from going anywhere. Mahawat daily use to do the same thing and when Elephant become a young adult then Mahawat ties him with a thin rope. The elephant who can easily demolish a building does not try to break the rope. This is the power of habit and hence we must smile most of the time to inculcate this habit. It is also seen that people with a smile used to get more success as compared to people with serious faces.
If we are unable to smile easily even then we must try to smile as it is seen that action tends to feel. Hence try to smile always and feeling will come automatically.
The "President's technique":
According to a recent study conducted over officials working/worked in US President's estate. Researchers asked them about their encounter with the US president. All of them answered that it doesn't matter if President was Obama, Bush or Clinton, all of them had people's skills. President gives a feeling to other people that they are the most important person and always listened to their concerns. Presidents used to meet hundreds of people each day but everyone had the same feeling in common. So what is the president's technique?
These guys never try to show them as presidents but they always build a personal connection with other people. All of them have firm handshakes and good eye contact. Communication Guru Mr. Arch Lustberg says that look in the eye of the other person in such a way that he is a baby. Just like you welcome a baby with a smile and make eye contact with the baby to show them that you are not a threat. This may feel strange but it works.
So please implement the above-mentioned methods, especially President's technique and make a good first impression on others.
