The Story of Sukanya and Sage Chyavana

Introduction In Sanatan Scriptures, Sukanya was the daughter of King Sharyati, son of Vaivasvata Manu, and later became the wife of the great sage Chyavana. The sage had spent so many years in deep meditation that his body was covered by an anthill and a bird’s nest had formed over him. One day, the young and curious Sukanya noticed two shining objects inside the nest. Unaware that they were the sage’s eyes, she playfully poked at them, causing him to lose his sight. Enraged by this act, Chyavana cursed the kingdom, but Sukanya’s father pacified him by offering his daughter’s hand in marriage. Despite Chyavana’s old age and blindness, Sukanya accepted her role as his wife and devotedly cared for him with cheerfulness and loyalty. One day, the celestial physicians of the gods, the Ashwini Kumaras—twin brothers renowned for their beauty and healing powers—saw Sukanya and were struck by her radiant charm. Believing her beauty was better suited for heaven, they asked her to abandon her hus...

Theory of broken windows

Broken windows
If you go to the area of great poverty then you will find roads in bad condition, walls with graffiti, economy is in gutter, broken windows and higher crime rates. The motivation of residents is also not too high because they think nothing good can happen to them. But if we set things in order and show a visual display of discipline then things start improving. This shows that there is an underpinning relationship between behavior and environmental conditions.
The theory of broken windows was introduced by sociologists George Kelling and James Wilson in the 1980s. This theory explains that when low-level crimes like breaking windows of cars/buildings are ignored then more serious crimes start happening. There is also a case study regarding this theory. Phillip Zimbardo a psychologist from Stanford University had done a social experiment in 1969. He placed one car in a very poor area and another in a very posh area. The car which was placed in a poor area was placed without a license plate, open doors and open bonnet. That car was robbed within 10 minutes. On the other hand, the second car was placed like any other car with the bonnet down and intact license plate. The car remained untouched for more than seven days. Then Zimbardo smashed the window of the car. The car got robbed within a few hours.
Car theft
Similarly, we can observe this theory in action when one person throws garbage at any particular corner of the road. If that garbage has not been removed then any other person will not think twice and throw his garbage also there. This initiates a vicious cycle and shortly there will be a heap of garbage. Similarly during studies, if we ignore 1 assignment and teacher do not ask about it then we stop doing other assignments also. We must not accept any single inconsistency in our work as it will keep us away from perfection. If there is a problem with the design of our product then adding one more problem will never create an objection to anyone.
New York Police Department car
Let us see how in the 1990s New York Police under Police commissioner William Bratton was able to decrease law and order violations. He had assigned officers to catch turnstile jumpers and started arresting people for minor wrongdoings. When he started focusing on small crimes then he saw a drastic reduction in major crimes like murders. When Mr. Bratton resigned from his position in 1994, crime rates were down almost 40%. In our business also if we start neglecting small debts and do not repay timely then we start taking other loans also and move towards the destruction of our business.
