Scarcity Mindset vs Abundance Mindset

Scarcity Mindset Vs Abundance Mindset
Introduction

Mind is the most powerful tool and your Mindset is the most important component of your success in life. In a study by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, the mindset of young students was examined in which she found that children with a growth mindset who believed that intelligence can be developed were able to overcome academic challenges better than those with a fixed mindset that the intelligence of a person is predetermined. Stephen Covey mentioned about Scarcity Mindset and Abundance Mindset in his best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Scarcity mentality refers to people amongst whom, one person takes a big piece and leaves less for everyone else whereas, in abundance mindset, they believe that there is plenty out there for everybody.

Steps to shift from Scarcity Mindset to an Abundance Mindset?

1.) Focus on what you have
Ideas like you aren’t doing good job or you don’t have transferable skills, are all based on scarcity in which you focus more on what you don’t have. You see limitations instead of opportunities with such a mindset. You should rather see opportunities and think about what you really want to do with your life.

2.) Find and spend time with people having an abundance mindset
There are people who see the glass as half-full instead of half-empty. You need to find them and surround yourself with such people having an abundance mindset. You should ask yourself if you can look up to the people with whom you spend most of your time. If not, then you should find people who are living the life that you aspire to.
3.) Create win-win situations
When you have a scarcity mindset, you start believing that if one person wins, the other person loses. To shift to an abundance mindset, you should try to create win-win situations in your life. You must look for ways that make both parties leave with a sense of accomplishment. Practice this in both your personal and professional life by listening without judgment, brainstorming solutions, etc.
4.) Incorporate gratitude into your daily life
You must understand that if you focus more on what you have in your life, you’ll always have more but if you keep focusing on what you don’t have in your life, you’ll never have enough. To improve your overall well-being, you must practice gratitude in your daily life as it improves both, your mental and physical well-being.
People with a scarcity mentality tend to see everything in
5.) Give Training to your mind to recognize the possibilities
If you have an abundance mindset, it will allow you to see more in your life. You can see more options, more choices, and more resources in your life. When we very intently focus on one particular thing, other possibilities can go completely unnoticed. You need to train your mind to open up and widen its focus to be able to recognize possibilities.

Conclusion

By shifting from a Scarcity Mindset to an Abundance Mindset, you attract success and abundance in your life. You get what you feel and believe that you can achieve. But, most people especially in the corporate world are conditioned to have a scarcity mentality. It keeps many of us from achieving our goals. The above-mentioned steps can help you to shift to an Abundance Mindset as it allows us to turn our weaknesses into opportunities. It also helps us to transform our negative experiences into positive ones. If you have a scarcity mindset, it will leave you feeling depressed and paralyzed whereas an abundance mindset will leave you feeling motivated and ready for action. Therefore, we must try to imbibe an Abundance Mindset in our lives.
