Introduction In a world filled with challenges and setbacks, the quest for resilience has become paramount. Resilience is more than just overcoming hardship; it's about flourishing in the midst of it. And when it comes to resilience, few cultures embody it as profoundly as the Finns, who have a word for this indomitable spirit: Sisu. Sisu, pronounced "see-soo," is a unique Finnish concept that encapsulates grit, determination, and courage in the face of adversity. It's an intrinsic quality deeply embedded in the Finnish psyche, influencing how they approach life's challenges. But what exactly is Sisu, and how can we incorporate this powerful mindset into our own lives? At its core, Sisu is about perseverance in the face of extreme adversity. It's the ability to summon inner strength and tenacity when confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. While resilience is a universal trait found in every culture, Sisu has distinct characteristics that set it ap
There are several popular philosophies like Chanakya Neeti, Bhishma Neeti, Shukra Neeti and Parshurama Niti in India. Many people do not know about Vidur and his philosophy i.e., Vidur Neeti. Vidur explained his teachings in a very beautiful way in Vidur Niti. Vidur Niti can be found in Udyog Parv of Mahabharata. After the war between Pandavas and Kauravas, Dhritarashtra discussed wrong & right and the same is written under Vidur Niti. We had already explained five teachings in our last blog. Today we will explain other important teachings of Vidur:
1. A person who has enmity with powerful people and who forgets about his good friends is the greatest fool. There is also a saying that if you have enmity with someone then there are zero chances of your benefit but there are definite chances of the fact that he will harm you. We must always try to be friendly with everyone. Also many times we ignore our good friends and do not concentrate on their needs. At the end of the day, our achievements have little meaning without our near and dear ones. Hence we must also focus on our relationships.
2. A person who starts a new project after doing proper analysis and does not stop until it is achieved is a very wise person. Swami Vivekanand once said " Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is achieved. On the same line, we must also work on our projects diligently and must never procrastinate over small setbacks. Small setbacks will definitely come in our way and we have to overcome those obstacles and visualize the success. Fear is our greatest enemy and it is also the greatest misery in the world, therefore we must never fear the failure.
3. Our minds, talks, and actions must always point towards positivity. We must always work towards the achievement of our goal. Vidur said whatever we think will definitely come to us, if we think about our problems then we will be surrounded by problems and if we will think about the opportunity then we will get more opportunities around. In other words, Vidur already explained about "Law of attraction" five thousand years ago. Stephen covey in one of his famous books told a story about two brothers. There were two brothers and their father used to drink alcohol daily. After drinking he used to beat his sons and wife. After growing up one of his sons become a millionaire and the other one became alcoholic. When Covey interviewed a millionaire son and asked how he became a millionaire then he explained that since childhood that son focussed on coming out of those problems he faced during childhood. How his father used to spend all of his earnings on alcohol and survival for the whole family was a big challenge. On the other hand, another son who became drunkard explained that his life was ruined because of his father. We can clearly see the difference between two thinkings. We can also change our fortune by thinking with more optimism.
In these times when everyone is listening and reading about foreign thinkers and their philosophies, we all must read our own Indian history to understand that everything is already written here. We will come with philosophies of other Indian acharyas and leaders in subsequent writings.
