Introduction Meetings were created to bring people together, align thinking, and drive decisions. Yet in many organizations today, meetings have become one of the biggest drains on time, energy, and motivation. Most teams don’t suffer because they meet too often. They suffer because they meet badly. Unclear discussions, endless talking, and zero follow-through quietly erode productivity. Over time, this doesn’t just waste hours—it damages morale, trust, and ownership. People begin to associate meetings with frustration rather than progress. The real problem is not the meeting itself. It’s the hidden evils inside poorly run meetings. Let’s break down the five silent killers that turn meetings into energy-draining rituals—and how recognizing them can help you reclaim your team’s time and focus. 1. Meeting Without a Leader or Moderator A meeting without ownership quickly turns into a talking shop. Everyone has something to say. No one is responsible for steering the conve...
According to a study conducted at Stanford Unversity by Dr. Veronica Jobs, just as we fill fuel in the car to run it. The willpower works in the same way, it keeps us motivated all day. As we cannot fill fuel in a car beyond a certain limit, we have willpower in a limited amount. Whenever we wake up in the morning we used to have 100% will power but we use that will power while doing unnecessary things and feel demotivated when tough situations come. There are many students and professionals who feel very less will power even before ending their day. On the other side, we have people who used to stay motivated throughout the day. Let's understand how those people maintain their higher motivation and there are no magic secrets.
Researchers explain how playing video games in excessive amounts drain our willpower. To prove this point Stanford University conducted a study where few students were divided into two groups and one group was provided with exciting video games. On the other side, the second group was provided with small books for reading and painting material for making drawings. After four hours, researchers conducted a math test. The results were an eye-opener as more than 90% of students of the first group had given up the test paper without solving most of the questions but on the other side, most of the students of the second group solved all questions. Scientists started interviewing first group students as to why they had given up so early? Students explained how they had lost all their energies and will power in winning different stages of games. On the other side, the second group was just reading light books and hence had very high will power to solve maths questions. Many of us play excessive video games, lose willpower unknowingly and then start blaming others for their failure.
Our willpower just acts as a muscle and if we train that muscle without exhausting it in playing excessive video games then we can get success very easily. There are certain ways to increase willpower:
1. Priority list: we must always make a priority list each day and must follow that list religiously. This list must always be made one day before so that we will be clear that what things are to be completed the next day. By planning in advance we can save our time also.
2. First things first: As we read earlier in this article that willpower decreases as the day passes and we have the highest willpower level at the starting of the day hence we must do important things first.
3. Eat timely: To do important things we must have correct energy levels to execute them. Many times we used to skip meals in order to complete certain projects but it's not correct as we cannot execute important things without having optimum energy levels. Do read our article on the importance of BMW to live a better and fulfilling life.
In my life, I’ve found a lot more motivation when I’m focused on encouragement and celebrating the good things rather than concentrating on negativity. I hope that helps.
