She’s considered as a big Television media Baron and also dubbed as “Queen of All Media" but her challenging story is known to very few people. Let us see how she had become the richest African American of the 20th century and North America's first black multi-billionaire despite coming from a very poor family.
She was born in Mississippi and her grandmother was a maid. Her mother was a housekeeper and there were very minimal chances that she can reach even a graduate school. She was so poor that her mother can’t even afford a dress for her daughter and Oprah used to wear Empty Potato Sack dresses. She was a child rap victim and suffered so many hardships. She got pregnant at the age of 14. We can't imagine what type of trauma she had faced in her childhood. After her newborn child died immediately after birth, her stepfather told her that this is her second chance. She came out of trauma and joined her college again. She excelled in her studies and got a chance to work as a part-time news anchor because of her excellent oratory skills. After working as a news anchor for 3 years, she was hired as a full-time anchor in WLAC TV where she had become the youngest news anchor and first black anchor in the history of that media company. After completing her graduation, she moved to Baltimore where she joined a television company as a news reporter but shortly she was knocked out of the program. Its rightly said that sometimes you have to move two-step backward to move at a very high speed in a forward direction.

After facing a big failure in Baltimore, she moved to Chicago and joined AM Chicago channel. She worked hard and changed the fortune of herself and that of the channel. She became popular for her morning show. Here Music legend and producer Quincy Johns noticed her and given a chance to do Steven Spielberg's movie "The Color Purple". This movie proved to be a game-changer for her and provided her a chance of Academy award nomination. Her show at AM Chicago was rechristened as " The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1986. This show became a great hit and established her as a great TV host. At this point in time, she might have decided to just relax and enjoy her life. But she denied to take rest and expanded her "Oprah Winfrey" Brand. She started The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Radio, Oprah Winfrey Network, Oprah's Lifeclass, Oprah's Master Class, Oprah Prime and Oprah's Book Club 2.0. As of now, her net worth is 260 crores USD. She often says "Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness." and by this quote, we can easily understand her capability of thinking great things.
