SISU: The Finnish Concept of Resilience

Introduction In a world filled with challenges and setbacks, the quest for resilience has become paramount. Resilience is more than just overcoming hardship; it's about flourishing in the midst of it. And when it comes to resilience, few cultures embody it as profoundly as the Finns, who have a word for this indomitable spirit: Sisu. Sisu, pronounced "see-soo," is a unique Finnish concept that encapsulates grit, determination, and courage in the face of adversity. It's an intrinsic quality deeply embedded in the Finnish psyche, influencing how they approach life's challenges. But what exactly is Sisu, and how can we incorporate this powerful mindset into our own lives? At its core, Sisu is about perseverance in the face of extreme adversity. It's the ability to summon inner strength and tenacity when confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. While resilience is a universal trait found in every culture, Sisu has distinct characteristics that set it ap

Principle 3: Applied Faith

Introduction

The third principle of Napoleon Hill's 17 principles of success is the Applied Faith. This is our greatest asset but people used to ignore it. This is a medium by which we can tap and draw upon the supreme power which created us and runs the entire universe. Many people relate faith with religion but we can also apply faith in our professional life. He said that subconscious mind do not have thinking capability. Subconscious mind used to believe our self talks. He also said that faith is our state of mind which maybe created or induced by repeated instructions or affirmations to our subconscious mind, by using the principle of auto suggestion.

Applied faith is a firm belief in our objective or purpose backed by a strong prayer. Make an expression of gratitude for your blessings while praying for the help of God. Applied faith is a mental attitude that we must develop and maintain before taking complete possession of our minds.

Applied Faith and Six Riches

Applied faith is a means of breaking the treasure trove which can lead us to the six forms of riches. Those six riches are the reward of taking full possession of our minds. Those six riches are:
1. Sound Health
2. Peace of mind
3. A labor of love of your own choice
4. Freedom from fear and worry
5. Positive mental attitude
6. Material riches of your own choice and quantity
Unsuccessful people often see the hole in a donut but used to ignore donut around the hole. Successful people also see the hole but they focus on the donut. Henry Ford perfectly implemented this principle and successfully built production viable Engine. He used to work for 12-14 hours in a factory and designed the engine in his spare time. He used to spend 4-5 hours in his garage to build his engine and take rest for only 4 hours. He had a faith in his target and hence became a successful industrialist with very less initial capital and education. Most of us are hostages of four horsemen and they have our full control. Those four horsemen are poverty, fear, illiteracy and superstition. Applied faith is the master key through which we can break the control of these four horsemen.

How to build strong applied faith

Napoleon Hill had provided below mentioned instructions to build a strong mental attitude which is favourable for building the applied faith:
1. We must know what we want from our life and believe that we will achieve our targets
2. We must have an expression of gratitude whenever we achieve our targets. We can have an expression of gratitude even when we are not in possession of our desired output. Please remember that possession starts from the mind.
3. Take personal initiative and do not wait for others to take action on your behalf. There is no meaning of applied faith without taking concrete actions.
4. Every defeat must be seen as a challenge to recover again. We can fail many times before achieving our final target.
5. A burning desire is the starting point of all applied faith. Don’t stop taking actions even after several failures.
6. Don’t let your doubt creeps in. We achieve according to our belief system. High achiever’s always target stars.

Summary

Please understand that taking action is a secret sauce for receiving more instructions from infinite intelligence. We must not say that "I do not know how to do this thing" but we must say that how can I do it? Please remember that applied faith is our greatest asset.
All the best
