11 Life Lessons From Squid Game

Introduction

The Squid Game is one of Netflix’s best performing K-Dramas to date since its release. It was even ranked No. 1 in the Netflix U.S. Top 10 list after breaking the record of Sweet Home’s Rank 3. Squid game episodes held the viewers at the edge of their seats with compelling characters and a twisted premise. The Squid Game is Netflix’s latest overnight sensation that explores the darker sides of humanity. The Squid Game episodes teach us 11 Life Lessons.

11 Life Lessons From Squid Game

1. Trust people carefully
You must be careful in the life of whom you trust. In the Squid Gameshow, a lesson can be learned from the betrayal done by Cho Sang Woo’s (Park Hae Soo) with Abdul Ali (Anupam Tripathi) who admired and was kind to Sang Woo throughout the show but was brutally killed because of him during the game of marbles.
2. Money isn’t everything
Money is very important but it can’t buy you satisfaction or happiness in life. Oh II Nam (Oh Yeong Su) was the mastermind behind the game made for the entertainment of II Nam and his ultra-rich clients. But when just spectating couldn’t satisfy him any longer, he decided to join the game as a player.
3. Humanity still exists
During the final confrontation between II Nam and Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae), they made a wager to see if someone will come to help a homeless man who was freezing on the street before the clock strikes midnight. People actually came to help the man that ultimately restored the faith in humanity.

4. Avoid Addiction
The fourth lesson from the squid game is that addiction is a slippery slope. Gi Hun’s was heavily debt-ridden due to his gambling addiction. He could not support his daughter and was unable to pay his mother’s medical bills. Due to all this, he had join the game to solve his financial difficulties.
5. Don’t be condemn others quickly
We must not condemn people in our lives quickly because there are exceptions. For example, North Korean Refugee Kang Sae Byeok (Ho Yeon Jung) was quite noble as she wanted to accumulate debt to get her mother out of the North and wished to use the prize money to reunite her family.
6. Brains Power can be worth more than muscle power
The brainpower is worth more than the muscle power as Gi Hun’s team wins the game of tug-of-war even after being outmatched in physical strength by their opponents. The team of Gi Hun proved that if you have a good strategy and great teamwork, it will triumph strength in many situations.
7. People are worst when in desperation and greed
We never know how far a person can go when s/he is driven by desperation and greed. In the squid game Sang Woo’s pushes his fellow player off the bridge without hesitation in the penultimate game and even murders Sae Byeok while waiting for the final game to start. Gi Hun also put aside his morals for the sake of survival by capitalizing on Il Nam’s dementia to trick him and win the game of marbles.
8. What goes around comes around
What starts from you today will definitely come back to you tomorrow. Gangster Jang Deok Su (Heo Sung Tae) leaves Han Mi Nyeo (Kim Joo Ryoung) to die during tug-of-war who actually saved his life during the honeycomb game by lending him a lighter. That’s why Mi Nyeo killed Deok Su as revenge for his deeds.
9. Be creative
Sometimes we should think of out-of-the-box solutions to solve a problem. Gi Hun had to carve out the hardest shape for the honeycomb game but as soon as he realized that he can melt out the umbrella shape, he began to lick his biscuit instead of carving it with a needle, thus, eliminating the risk of cracking the biscuit and losing the game.
10. Being last can be beneficial
Sometimes being last gives you an extra advantage. In the fifth game of Glass Stepping Stones, the players had to choose between each pair of glass tiles while going through the bridge. On choosing wrongly, the player would fall down to their death. Gi Hun, got the last turn thus gaining a huge advantage of choosing among the fewer tiles that were left.

11. Do not give up on the possibilities
Your life can change at any time, even in its final moments. Ji Yeong (Lee Yoo Mi) was an ex-convict who killed her abusive father. She was recruited by Sae Byeok to join Gi Hun’s tug-of-war team who ended up throwing the marbles game to let Sae Byeok win. She sacrificed her own life to help Sae Byeok survive by which she lived meaningfully even if it was for a brief moment.
