Understanding the Rule of 5 The Rule of 5 is based on the principle of consistent effort. The idea is to choose five specific actions every day that will move you closer to your goal, and then execute them without fail. Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided so many spectacular moments to the cricket fans. IPL has established itself as the biggest cricket extravaganza on earth. It's no surprise that IPL has a birthplace which is the capital of modern-day cricket i.e., India where cricket is just like a heartbeat. Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been in news since its inception (both good and bad) whether its match-fixing scandal or Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deciding to donate opening ceremony money to Indian Armed Forces. In our mind, IPL is all about cheerleaders, after-match parties, sixes, etc but we can learn various life-changing things from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Let us try to explore key learnings from IPL:
1. In this world, nothing is permanent: They said that he is the brain behind IPL. In one of the interviews, he said: " I think this is the biggest thing that I have ever achieved and I have tempted about it, lived it and it becomes a reality and that what happened". He was also thinking about twice a year IPL but everything changed when media disclosed scam done by Lalit Modi. He was out of the game and any IPL related decisions.
There is a clear cut learning for us that in this world nothing is permanent. Everything has an end. Your life, my life, the sun, the stars everything you can possibly imagine.
In this absolute sense, nothing is permanent.
We always forget this simple fact and take what we have for granted and pursue needless things.
Let us take the example of rock analogy for better understanding:
The rock appears to be permanent but obviously, it's not. Mountains are eroding constantly and a crust is melting. On the scale of human life, it seems permanent and people have recognized this fact for thousands of years. we build so many monuments and that makes it important for us. We say "Diamond is forever". We build our monuments out of these rocks because they outlast us. Our modern structures are made up of glass and metals who are in turn is nothing but the fine form of a rock. We carve our heroes on rocks as we want them to last forever and such type of permanence in our lives. When we get success in life we think that it will remain with us forever but we must always strive for the best and not sit down while boasting our previous achievements.
2. Taking initiatives can be rewarding: The Indian Premier League had changed the way India played cricket. When it started, many people were skeptical about the future of the T20 cricket format and not too many franchisees came forward. But BCCI pursued some of the sponsors and started the IPL. We all know what a great success it became later. If BCCI had not taken this step and pursued only One Day International (ODI) and Test matches then this extravaganza must not become a reality.
As an Inventor Thomas Edison failed for 9999 times and become successful only after that. In one of the interviews, he said " I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." If Edison had not taken the initiative to explore the possibility of bulb then our world might be different today.
3. Setbacks are part of life: In 2015 Chennai Super King (CSK) was banned from IPL because of spot-fixing. There was no meaning of IPL for CSK fans, they cannot think of IPL without CSK. It was also shocking for team players. When IPL 2018 started and the CSK team made a comeback, CSK owners decided to retain MS Dhoni as captain.IPL fans started celebrating their "Whistle Podus". Dhoni, Raina, Bravo, and Jadeja made a comeback. What a comeback it was, the team not only won so many matches but was successful in winning the title. The team which was banned from IPL for 2 years had won the title. This is a true example of a successful comeback and there is very important learning for us. Generally, we used to become hopeless when things do not go as we wanted. We must not give up on those moments. Thomas Edison once said, "Many of Life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." hence we must not give up our target when things go against us as we do not know how much near the success is.
There are so many things to learn from IPL and those points cannot be covered in one article hence we will come back with a series of articles where we will explore other important life lessons we can learn from IPL.
