Introduction The story of Nachiketa from the Katha Upanishad is one of the most profound lessons in focus, sincerity, and determination. Though deeply spiritual, its relevance extends far beyond — offering timeless wisdom for leaders, professionals, and anyone navigating today’s fast-paced corporate world. Nachiketa was a young boy whose father once undertook a yagna (sacred ritual) where everything one owned was to be given away in charity for spiritual merit. But instead of giving away his best possessions, Nachiketa’s father chose only the old and useless things. The boy, though only five years old, recognized the lack of integrity in his father’s actions. Courageously, he questioned his father: "If you truly vowed to give away everything, why are you keeping the valuable possessions back? Whom will you give me to?" Irritated, his father angrily retorted: “I give you to Yama, the Lord of Death.” Taking this seriously, Nachiketa set out to meet Yama. When he arrived, Yama ...

If we will observe closely then we will find below-mentioned facts are very true:
" Time is slow when we wait"
" Time is fast when we are late"
" Time is very deadly when we are sad"
" Time is short when we are happy"
" Time is endless when we are in deep pain"
" Time is long when we feel bored"
We correlate our situation with the current time but actually, our situation depends on our feelings and psychological conditions.
Below mentioned techniques can be used to manage our time well and achieve our goals in a time-bounded manner.
1) Distraction elimination: We all know that the number of distractions is increasing day by day. We are surrounded by distractions and it depends upon us to focus on our goal or to just waste our time with social media and other distractions. Direction and distraction are inversely proportional. If we eliminate distraction then our direction got cleared but if we didn't focus on our direction then we got distracted. We can also make social media plan and restrict its usage immediately. There is also a concept of "5 am club" where people make a ritual of waking up at 5 am and taking out fixed time to meditate and plan their day.
2) Focus on your goals: We should select our goal wisely and must take some time to think over it. But when we have selected our goal then we must never look back. Bill Gates once said: The secret behind my success is that I had focussed on very few things. The main mediocrity of our life is not that we had not achieved our goals but an actual mediocrity is that many of us do not have a clear goal. Arunima Sinha despite being disadvantaged (the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest) climbed Mount Everest because she had a clear goal of 8848 meters (height of Mt. Everest). So what is your 8848?
3) Raise your standard: We should not prove anything to anyone but must improve day by day. There is a concept of Kaizen in Japan. Kaizen means continuous improvement and by doing small improvements every day we can achieve great milestones. Let us first understand the application of Kaizen technique with one case study, scientists have identified a high rise building and met with employees working on the seventh floor. Employees working there never had exercised in their life. Researchers explained the health benefits of the exercise and then issued free Gym membership vouchers to them. Then scientists met with the employees at the Eleventh floor who are also not doing any type of exercise. Researchers again explained the health benefits of the exercise but they have not provided free gym membership here but instead, they told employees to go to the canteen by stairs and daily climb one more step than the last day. After 1 year when researchers came back, they found that employees of the eleventh floor are very healthy as compare to seventh-floor employees. This means that small steps can lead to bigger results. Similarly, we can also take small steps each day and achieve bigger goals.
4) Role of a mentor: The role of a Guru or Mentor is very important as he is the only one who can give us unalloyed feedback about our character and performance. We can always go to him in case of any doubt or query. He can impart the skills and knowledge required to become successful. Hence apart from the above mentioned three things, the role of the mentor is the most important and can save our time we might have spent in confusion and ignorance.
Follow the above-mentioned techniques to save your time and achieve your goals in a time-bounded manner.
