Ransom’s warm, conversational tone and practical advice make this a standout resource for anyone curious about journaling, regardless of experience. Book Review: How to Journal for Beginners by Robert Ransom What sets this book apart is its gentle encouragement. Ransom speaks directly to beginners, addressing the fears and doubts that often hold people back. He dismantles the myth that journaling is only for those with artistic talent or profound thoughts, reminding readers that every word they write has value. His message is simple but powerful: journaling isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being authentic. Ransom’s approach is refreshingly practical. He does...
Napoleon Hill once said, “ The only limitation is that which one sets up in one’s own mind.” Srinivas Ramanujan proved this quote true. Srinivas Ramanujan, the person who knew infinity, was a common village boy with unlimited potential. He didn’t get any professional training from any mathematician but he was a self-trained person. He was born on December 22, 1887, in a Tamil family. His contribution to mathematics is unmatched and will be remembered always. He died at a young age of 32 but he had given so much to the field of mathematics that if he had lived 10-20 years more then he might have surpassed the achievements of Einstein or Newton. We can measure the talent of Ramanujan by knowing facts like he used to solve college-level mathematics problems during schooling, at the age of thirteen he learned advanced Trigonometry and in his life of mere Thirty Two years, he invented 3900+ equations. But during his lifetime he continuously faced challenges as he failed in exams because of which his stipend stopped, his health was not good and he wandered to search the job. His birthday is celebrated as National Mathematics Day in India.
His interest in math was unmatched and his school principal even said that school exams are not valid for Ramanujan. But as he reached higher classes, he focussed more on maths and ignored other subjects because of which he failed the tenth class exam. The condition of his family was also not good and his scholarship stopped when he failed exams. He left school and started searching for a job and reached Chennai. But soon after reaching Chennai, his health became worse and he returned to his hometown. After recuperating, he traveled back to Chennai and one of his friends arranged a scholarship from the government to support his research work. By this support, he was successful in publishing his first research work. After working consistently on his research work, he felt that without the support of another mathematician his research work will not move forward. He approached one Mathematics professor and he referred him to Professor Hardy of UK. When professor Hardy looked at the work of Srinivas Ramanujan, he immediately decided to work with Srinivas Ramanujan.
Together both mathematicians worked towards the advancement of mathematics. Cambridge University acknowledged the efforts of the Srinivas Ramanujan and bestowed BA degree unto him. The royal society of the UK also decided to grant him, fellowship, as well. This was one of the major achievements of Srinivas Ramanujan as at that time India was still under the control of Britishers and Indians were compared to Dogs at that time. The story of Srinivas Ramanujan truly proves that if one follows his passion with diligent effort then people will definitely acknowledge one's efforts. We will wind up with one more quotation of Napolean Hill " Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." Ramanujan thought about mathematics with passion and he had ultimately done wonders.
Hope this will help.
