Book Review: How to Journal for Beginners by Robert Ransom What sets this book apart is its gentle encouragement. Ransom speaks directly to beginners, addressing the fears and doubts that often hold people back. He dismantles the myth that journaling is only for those with artistic talent or profound thoughts, reminding readers that every word they write has value. On 25 June 1975, when DUSU president Arun Jaitley was sleeping in his home at Narayana, police knocked the door. When he heard his father's argument with Police then he silently walked out from the backdoor. The next day he gathered around 200 student union members and protested against Emergency. Shortly he got arrested and kept at Tihar jail. He was kept in the same cell where Lal Krishna Advani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and other big leaders were locked. From this incident, his Political career started. Arun Jaitley completed his schooling from St. Xavier School, Delhi, and graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce. He was also a very popular lawyer and represented very big brands (like Coca Cola and Pepsi) in courts. He was also an admirer of costly watches and also purchased a watch of Patek Philippe when other Indians never think above Omega. Today we will talk about the five most important life lessons from Arun Jaitley.
1. Stand up for your cause: Mr. Jaitley always stood for his cause. He even fought a case against his own government. This case was for local cricket authorities. Local governments wanted to take local cricket associations under them but Jaitley appealed to the court that this thing is against the benefit of National Cricket. He was a very popular and one of the highest-earning lawyers of his time. If he wanted then he could also earn crores of Rupees by fighting court cases but he was enthusiastic about politics and hence he devoted his time for National politics. The whole world saw how Mr. Jaitley stood for his cause and achieved success in his life.
2. Always have a positive attitude: Arun Jaitley's life was a true example of a positive attitude. We can understand the importance of a positive attitude with his three life events. a) He was in the second year of his Law degree when he was jailed for 19 long months as he stood against the government. He spent his time in jail but never lost his positive attitude. b) When BJP was formed he was made its member and without any expectation, Mr. Jaitley worked for 22 years as a party member without asking for Loksabha or Rajyasabha seat. In this time when all of us want instant results, we all must learn patience and positive attitude from Sh Jaitley. c) He faced so many challenges in his life, he got kidney failure, heart attack, surgery complications, and cancer but he never gives up.
3. Always be a helping hand: Rajat Sharma (famous media personality) explained this character of Mr. Jaitley by his experience with him. Rajat was from a very poor family. He got selected for Shri Ram College of Commerce and when he was in a line for submitting his fee, the collecter yelled at him and told him why he took so many 2 rupees notes. After counting those notes Rajat found that he is still short of 3 rupees. After seeing this, the collecter again started yelling at him. Mr. Jaitley suddenly appeared in the picture and handed over 5 rupees note to Rajat and helped him. Mr. Jaitley used to remain ready to help any needy person. I think he earned so many blessings from this character which in turn made him so successful.
4. Focus on both Family and professional life: Mr. Jaitley generally used to remain busy with so many things but he never forgets spending time with his family. He used to enjoy food with his family and his close associates explained how he used to know each and every corner of Delhi where good food was made. He got married to Mrs. Sangeeta Dogra, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister and Congress leader Girdhari Lal Dogra, on 24 May 1982. Both Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari attended his marriage.
5. Multitasking is a way to succeed: Mr. Jaitley was a top-notch Lawyer, world-class politician, cricket enthusiast and was at the helm of top ministries. He had done so many things simultaneously. We all must learn this important trait from him. In Vajpayee Government, he was appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent Charge), Minister of State for Disinvestment (Independent Charge), Cabinet Minister for the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and Shipping. He handled so many ministries and also advised many other ministers with his calm and dependable persona. Sh. Manohar Parrikar also had a similar personality, please read here about him.
Let's inculcate these traits in ourselves and continue our life journey with this new perspective.
